The Hooey brand was founded by Joey Austin, who wanted to give western kids access to a more progressive brand that represented their passion and interests. After returning home from California to Texas in 2009, Joey launched Hooey with just two hat designs. The name "Hooey" refers to the knot a cowboy uses to finish tying a calf's legs together in tie-down roping rodeos.
